In a bid to enhance trade relations and explore joint venture investment opportunities, a delegation of Trade Representatives from Russia, operating under the Ministry of Industry and Trade, visited Sri Lanka from December 14th to December 16th. The visit aimed to foster fruitful discussions with the Sri Lanka-Russia Business Council and engage in potential joint ventures with the local business community. To facilitate these interactions, the Sri Lanka-Russia Business Council organized a round table discussion, attracting participation from over 15 local companies representing various sectors.

The round table discussion proved to be a significant platform for dialogue, bringing together esteemed attendees, including His Excellency Levan S. Dzhagaryan, the Ambassador of the Russian Embassy in Sri Lanka, Mr. Aleksander Rybas, the Trade Commissioner of Russia, representatives from the Russian Embassy and trade team, Mr. Manjula de Silva, former Secretary General and CEO of the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce, and Mrs. Renuka Weerakone, Director General of the Board of Investments.

The event saw a diverse representation of local companies hailing from sectors such as shipbuilding and ports, shipping operations, chemicals and fertilizer products, pharmaceutical products, and digital technologies encompassing information security and artificial intelligence. This broad participation reflects the keen interest of Sri Lankan businesses in forging partnerships and exploring potential avenues of collaboration with their Russian counterparts.
